Policy and legislative framework overview of fire management in Lithuania protected areas
Pranas Mierauskas
Flamma , 2012,
Abstract: Traditionally prescribed fire management in protected areas has not been applied in Lithuania. The need of fire use in habitat management emerges upon increasing of scientific knowledge of nature conservation specialists and protected area managers. Until now, Lithuanian legislation does not allowed prescribed fire use in landscape management. It is strictly forbidden, and anyone that provokes intentionally fire is accused of habitat and biodiversity destruction damages. Meanwhile, in the last year the first legal prescribed fire management took place in Dzukija National Park and it was a great step to reintroduce fire management in protected areas. The aim of this paper is to analyze and evaluate policy and legislative framework of prescribed fire management ant its perspectives in nearly future.
Fire in Protected Areas - the Effect of Protection and Importance of Fire Management
Paulo Pereira,Pranas Mierauskas,Xavier Ubeda,Jorge Mataix-Solera
Environmental Research, Engineering and Management , 2012, DOI: 10.5755/j01.erem.59.1.856
Abstract: Fires are important but socially and economically unwanted disturbances of the ecosystems. They cannot be considered as a problem, they are global phenomena. Protected areas are created to protect biodiversity, and strict protection is often applied, forgetting that fire had shaped that that we aim to protect. This harsh protection is producing important changes in the protected habitats and is increasing their vulnerability to destructive wildfires. Thus, it is of major interest to incorporate fire management in the protected areas plan, including the (re)use of prescribed fire and traditional burning in order to reintroduce fire regimens, fundamental to the landscape sustainability. This incorporation represents an enormous step in the habitats sustainability. Policies should be more focused on fire prevention than on its suppression. Stakeholders perception about prescribed fire use in Lithuania
P. Mierauskas,P. Pereira
Flamma , 2013,
Abstract: The objective of this article is to investigate attitudes of different stakeholders on applying of prescribed fire management in Lithuania. Research was carried out with telephone interviews to different actors interested in landscape management. The results show that the majority of the respondents have a negative view towards prescribed fire application for landscape management. The majority of the stakeholders involved in this survey showed a lack of knowledge about prescribed fire and relate it with wildland fires and advocate that there is not enough data that ensure the viability of landscape management with prescribed fire. This perception about fire does not agree with the ecological effects of fire in boreal and Lithuanian ecosystems.
Ten Years In The System of Entrepreneurship Stimulation
Pranas Bernardas Milius
Engineering Economics , 2008,
Abstract: Business incubator, established in Kaunas ten years ago, differed from other analogous structures in Lithuania in the way that it was oriented towards high technologies and innovations. Priorities were given to those companies that try to implement scientific novelties (innovations) in manufacture, maintain close relationships with Kaunas Technological University and other scientific institutions in Lithuania. After a successful eight-year work period, this business incubator became KTU regional Science Park. Activity of this incubator concentrates on the development of scientists and businessmen’s competences related to technological transfer, intellectual property, commercialization or scientific results, innovational activity in networks and entrepreneurship development. Favorable conditions in the business environment enable start-up companies to use their manufacturing and human resources more effectively and continuously develop knowledge-based business. Training and consultation sessions organized by the Park and available relationships (contacts) with partners from other EU member countries help companies to search for new possibilities for cooperation with partners from Lithuania and foreign countries.

The main aim of the paper is to provide some intellectual insights for further development of marketing science and practice. Marketing theory and method application in the country experiencing dynamic changes are examined. The main stress and attention are concentrated on the problem awareness, understanding, and perception of marketing and decisions, and actions, which arise from it. Theoretical and practical aspects are analyzed.
Management of protected areas with prescribed fire in Lithuania. The case of Dzukija National Park
Paulo Pereira,M. Lapele,P. Mierauskas
Flamma , 2012, DOI: paulo pereira
Abstract: The objective of this work is to present the application of prescribed fire as a tool formanagement in the Dzukija National Park, Lithuania. This was the first legal prescribed fire applied in Lithuania with the objective ofimprove the habitat of Black grouse for lek. This was an outstanding opportunity to study the impacts of prescribed fire in Black grousehabitat, but also in soil physical and chemical properties and vegetation recuperation in a Eastern European heathland, were few studies about prescribed-fire effects on ecosystems were carried out. The objectives of this short paper are present the objectives of thisprescribed management and monitoring studies.
Investigation of temperature dynamics in composted waste
Pranas Baltr nas , Audron Jankait
Ekologija , 2008, DOI: 10.2478/V10055-008-0010-4
Abstract: Waste management is a relevant issue for Lithuania. The municipal waste collection systems are not efficient, the equipment is worn out. The majority of waste that could be reused is disposed in the landfills. One of waste utilisation ways is composting. However, in Lithuania composting is not widely spread, there are just a few enterprises composting food, wood and vegetable wastes. One of such enterprises uses film to accelerate the aerobic process. At the beginning of the aerobic process, the temperature does not rise within the pile for several days, but on the fourth day of the process the temperature starts rising and its recording begins. During 32 days of the aerobic process the temperature in the pile increases to 65-72 °C. On average, 7% of oxygen is necessary for the aerobic process of composting to take place.
Analysis of Experimental Research on Cyclones with Cylindrical and Spiral Shells
Aleksandras Chlebnikovas,Pranas Baltr?nas
Science – Future of Lithuania , 2012,
Abstract: The conducted investigation is aimed at providing information on air flow parameters in the cylindrical and spiral shell (devices are designed for separating solid particles from air flow having tangent flow inlet). Experimental research has employed multi-cyclones created by the Department of Environmental Protection at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. The study is focused on investigating and comparing the distribution of the dynamic pressure of the airflow in six-channel cyclones inside the structures of devices. The paper establishes and estimates the efficiency of air cleaning changing air phase parameters using different particulate matters. The efficiency of the cyclone has been defined applying the weighted method based on LAND 28-98/M-08 methodology. The article presents the results of experimental research on the air cleaning efficiency of cylindrical and spiral shells using 20 μm glass and clay particulate matter under the initial concentration that may vary from 500 mg/m3 to 15 g/m3 using semi-rings with windows at different positions. The obtained results has shown that the maximum efficiency of the cylindrical shell increases up to 87,3 % while the initial concentration of glass makes 15 g/m3.Article in Lithuanian
Research and Evaluation of the Energy Flux Density of the Mobile Phone Electromagnetic Field
Pranas Baltr?nas,Raimondas Buckus
Science – Future of Lithuania , 2012,
Abstract: The article analyses variations in the energy flux density of the electromagnetic field of 10 mobile phones depending on distance. The studies have been conducted using three modes: sending a text message, receiving a text message and connecting a mobile phone to the Internet. When text messages are received or sent from a mobile phone, the values of the energy flux density of the mobile phone electromagnetic field exceed the safe allowable limit and make 10 μW / cm2. A distance of 10, 20 and 30 cm from a mobile phone is effective protection against the energy flux density of the electromagnetic field when writing texts, receiving messages or connecting to the mobile Internet.Article in Lithuanian

Science – Future of Lithuania , 2011, DOI: 10.3846/mla.2011.089
Abstract: Along with chemical research on the Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) growing in the South – Eastern part of Lithuania, the analysis of soil properties was given close attention. The analysed forest soil samples were collected in the spring and summer seasons of 2011. Before sampling, a grid of the area covering 10×10 km including all biggest forest areas of the territory was made. In total, 42 composite forest soil samples were examined. The conducted analysis measured soil moisture, pH and the content of total organic carbon. The assessment of these parameters and performed statistical analysis has disclosed that the content of total organic carbon positively and significantly correlates with pH and the content of soil moisture. Additionally, it has been determined that the content of total organic carbon tends to increase when pH of soil is close to neutral and a total value of soil moisture does not reach 0,61% Tiriant Pietry i Lietuvos paprastosiose pu yse (Pinus sylvestris L.) susikaupusi metal kiekius, daug d mesio buvo skiriama dirvo emio savybi analizei. Straipsnyje aptariami mi ko dirvo emio miniai, imti 2011 m. pavasar ir vasar . Prie atliekant lauko tyrimus buvo sudarytas 10 ×10 km dyd io mini mimo tinklelis, apimantis did iausius Pietry i Lietuvos mi k masyvus. I viso i tirti 42 sud tiniai mi ko dirvo emio miniai.
